The Town of Smithfield, North Carolina, operating under a Council-Manager form of government, seeks an outstanding leader to be their next Fire Chief. The successful candidate will be a strategic and visionary team builder who possesses operational and tactical experience to lead the Fire department.
Position description and responsibilities: Reporting to the Town Manager, the Fire Chief will lead a department of one fire station, 13 FTE staff, approximately 28 Volunteer Firefighters and will supervise an approximate $1.4M budget. The Chief is expected to be a visible chief, trusting his staff to manage incidents but engaged with his firefighters, residents, and partners in multiple jurisdictional agreements.
Qualifications and Pay: The Town seeks a fire safety leader with a minimum of a two year associate science degree in fire science, and completion of advanced courses and seminars in fire and rescue administration, considerable experience of an increasingly responsible nature to include three years of supervisory experience at the Assistant Chief / Deputy Chief level in the municipal fire service; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Residency within the fire district is required with residency within a mile of town limits preferred. Pre-employment drug screen, criminal history check and physical required.
