    Leland Fire/Rescue is accepting applications for the position of Battalion Chief of Operations

     

    Leland Volunteer Fire/Rescue Department, Inc. is a comprehensive “All-Hazards” emergency services department that offers fire suppression, technical rescue response, paramedic ems response, and public education. Leland Fire/Rescue is expecting to be acquired by the Town of Leland in July. These events have proven the need to hire additional Fire/EMS staff.     Salary Range: $60,000.00 - $81,000.00

    Distinguishing Characteristics of the position;

    The Battalion Chief of Field Operations is a non-exempt classification who always functions as a supervisor of personnel, with a primary responsibility to ensure that assigned personnel, apparatus, equipment and facilities are maintained in appropriate readiness to respond to a variety of life saving emergency calls.  The Battalion Chief of Field Operations is also responsible for the direction, management, supervision, and coordination of the activities of the department staff of Leland Fire/Rescue; supervises and manages operations, training, general facility/equipment maintenance, fire prevention, disaster preparedness, public education and related programs as assigned; serves as command officer when responding to emergency incidents and in day-to-day activities. This individual coordinates assigned activities with assigned teams, other departments, and outside agencies and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Superior Officers.

     

    Qualifications

    ·         Modern fire ground tactics and strategy; emergency incident management specifically the Incident Command System (ICS); principles of incident safety; automatic and mutual aid agreements; hazardous materials incident management; and confined space and technical rescue techniques;

    ·         The North Carolina Rating Response System (NCRRS);

    ·         Principles and practices of training program development and implementation;

    ·         Fire science theory, principles and practices and their application to a wide variety of emergency service operations including fire suppression, fire prevention, and fire investigation; operational characteristics of fire apparatus and equipment including emergency driving techniques, modern fire loss and fire prevention principles, methods and practices;

    ·         Knowledge and skill in performing pre-hospital medical care at accidents, emergencies, and disasters by administering basic and/or advanced care to include those within department protocols and their scope of practice;

    ·         Principles and practices of Disaster Preparedness, Emergency Management and Homeland Security program development and administration;

    ·         Geography and street layout of the service districts and surrounding area;

    ·         Laws and regulations pertaining to fire and emergency medical service operations;

    ·         Personal protective equipment;

    ·         Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases;

    ·         Departmental policy and procedures and manual of operations;

    ·         Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation;

    ·         Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations;

    ·         Algebraic and arithmetic computations;

    ·         English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation;

    ·         Principles and practices of customer service;

     

    Education and Experience;

    ·         Seven (7) years of emergency services experience with a minimum of three (3) years of that experience in a supervisory role, or an Associate’s Degree in a public safety discipline with five (5) years of fire service experience with a minimum of two (2) years of the experience in a supervisory role;

    ·         Possession of a valid NC Class B driver’s license;

    ·         Possession of an EMT-B credential; (Paramedic preferred)

    ·         Certified NC Firefighter

    ·         Certified NC Fire Officer 2

    ·         Certified NC Fire Instructor (Level II Qualified)

    ·         Certified NC Emergency Vehicle Driver

    ·         Certified NC D/O Pumps

    ·         Certified NC D/O Aerials

    ·         Certified NC TR General

    ·         Certified NC TR VMR (one other specialty preferred)

    ·     NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800

    ·         NC Chief 101 course completion (or within one year of hire)

    All applicants must be able to function independently as described in departmental job descriptions and be boarded (EMS) in Brunswick County in order to be retained for employment. Final salary for all positions will be determined by your qualifications.
