Open Resident Firefighter Position

Colfax Fire Department is currently accepting applications for resident firefighters. To assist in our creative staffing and minimum manning, we utilize resident firefighters in addition to our career and part time personnel for shift coverage. Residents are responsible for covering one hundred twenty hours of shift coverage each month. Typically personnel filling our resident positions are those individuals who are in the curriculum program at one of the surrounding community colleges, or an individual with an interest in gaining experience with a combination department.

Minimum Qualifications, to be considered for our resident firefighter positions are: 

1.   Be a member of Colfax Fire Department for one year or a member of another fire department for a minimum of two years.
2.   Be at least eighteen years of age.
3.   Interior Firefighter 1403

Desirable Qualifications 

1.   N.C. Firefighter II
2.   N.C. EMT
3.   Emergency Vehicle Driver (EVD)
4.   NC Hazardous Materials, Operations Level

The resident firefighter should successfully complete the following requirements after initially becoming a resident firefighter with Colfax Fire Department: 

1.   Colfax Firefighter practical skills & abilities within 60 days.
2.   Colfax FD Driver / Operator within 180 days.
