JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for performing difficult professional, technical and management work assisting the Fire Chief with planning, directing, and coordinating the administrative activities of the City’s Fire Department. May assume management of department in the absence of the Fire Chief.
Under the general supervision of the Fire Chief, the employee is assigned duties in administrative work developing coordinating and implementing plans, programs, and systems for all emergency management mission areas, including prevention, preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. Provides operational support to City of Hendersonville Leadership during planned and unplanned events.
An employee in this class provides leadership, guidance, administrative, supervisory, and managerial direction assistance for the City’s Fire Department. Work includes assisting Command Staff with organizing and directing fire tactical operations, emergency response to non-fire related calls, and implementing fire inspection and investigation programs. Provides technical guidance in formulating, drafting, and reviewing emergency plans, policies, processes, and procedures related to crisis management, emergency/disaster plans and other related contingency programs. Performs and, when necessary, oversees tasks that facilitate the City of Hendersonville’s interface with Federal, State, military, and local emergency operations. Work involves considerable public contact to provide information, answer questions, resolve complaints, and provide public education. Work is evaluated on the basis of attainment of individual and department goals and objectives, periodic conferences, activity reports, feedback from employees, other fire agencies, and public support.
