Assistant Fire Chief
The Town of Winterville is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Fire Chief. An employee in this class performs difficult professional and administrative work directing the activities of career and volunteer Firefighters/EMTs, and related work as required. Performs difficult technical and protective service work ensuring apparatus, equipment and facilities are maintained in appropriate state of readiness, operating firefighting and rescue apparatus, assisting with technical expertise and equipment operation in technical rescue operations, and related work as apparent or assigned.
The employee is subject to hazards associated with fire, rescue and EMS including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibrations, fire, smoke, odors, mists, oils, chemicals, and bodily fluids. Employees are also subject to the final OSHA standards on blood borne pathogens.
The work requires the use of personal protective equipment.
Environments are inherently dangerous.
The employee generally, supervises and evaluates full-time, part-time, and volunteer staff; directs daily work assignments; assigns personnel. Plans, organizes, directs, delivers, maintains records, and evaluates training programs for career and volunteer staff for professional development, certification, continuing education requirements of fire suppression, technical rescue, EMS, hazardous materials, health and safety, fire inspection and investigation, community risk reduction, and physical fitness, and other programs. Develops and administers task books; Serves as N.C. Fire and Rescue Commission Delivery Agency School Director.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Fire Chief.

Salary range: $67,745 - $101,613 (DOQ).
