About the Smithfield Fire Department
The Smithfield Fire Department (FD) is committed to protecting life, property, and the environment through responsive and professional emergency services, active community participation and support, and prevention, education, fire suppression, medical services, hazard mitigation and other related activities.
The Smithfield FD serves a population of over 13,000 residents and responds to more than 2,500 fire and rescue calls annually. The department includes over 40 career and volunteer firefighters that are dedicated to protecting the community and responding efficiently and effectively to emergencies. As the county seat, Smithfield is also home to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Department and Johnston County Emergency Management, including the EMS division.
