    Employment Opportunity

    Firefighter / Paramedic

    Phase 1: All interested candidates need to email a completed Town of Indian Beach employment application, resume, and cover letter to Deputy Chief Jackson at wjackson@indianbeach.org.

    Phase 2: Selected applicants will be invited to complete an agility/swim test and a written test followed by a skills test.

    Phase 3: Selected Candidates moving forward will have a panel interview.

    • General Definition of Work

    - Performs difficult protective service work preparing and conducting Fire/EMS training, responding to calls for service, ordering and maintaining equipment and supplies, preparing, and maintaining records and reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Fire Captain.

    - Protects life and property by performing mitigation activities during emergency situations to include fires, medical incidents, rescue, and other circumstances. Other duties include performing maintenance of vehicles and fire stations, conducting pre-plan fire inspections, and representing Fire Services to the public at various events. Additional responsibilities include scene and patient documentation, acting as Fire Captain as needed, preparing, and entering incident reports per Indian Beach Fire Department’s policy using current software program, performing assigned duties in preventive maintenance, and repairing of assigned equipment, apparatus, buildings, equipment, and facilities. Collateral duties involve providing instruction and training to firefighting personnel.

    • Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    IFSAC or Pro Board accredited certification as Firefighter (NFPA 1001) or IFSAC or Pro Board accredited certification as Firefighter II (prior edition standard NFPA 1001)

    · Ability to obtain within 6 months.

    NC EMT-Paramedic or equivalent

    ACLS, PALS, ITOS or PHTLS, & CPR Certification

    NC Class B License

    · Ability to obtain within 3 months.

    NC EVD Certification

    · Ability to obtain within 3 months.

    - Required as a condition of continued employment within 1 year of appointment to the position:

    NIMS certification 100, 200, 700, 800

    • Training / Experience

    - High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
