The City of Durham Fire Department is currently hiring experienced Firefighters.  This is your chance to join one of North Carolina's most aggressive and busiest fire departments.   

The starting salary is $56,844 and those hired will be credited with 2 years of service toward promotion!

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma/equivalency (GED, HiSET, TASC).
• Age 18 or older by the hire date/Academy start date
• Valid, unrestricted, Class C driver's license.
• No DWI/DUI convictions in the last four years.
• No felony convictions

Must pass written fire-related job knowledge test, agility testing, a firefighter practical skill test, medical examination, and extensive background investigation.

Must have:

• served a minimum of four years in a full-time municipal or DOD fire department and must have been employed by a full-time municipal or DOD fire department within the last 9 months at the time of application. (Note: government fire department/academy is defined as a city, town, or Department of Defense fire department.)
• North Carolina FF I and FF II certificate. Out-of-state certifications must be IFSAC or Pro Board certified; those applicants must apply for legal recognition from NC Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM).
• NC Hazardous Materials Operations (HAZMAT Ops) or NC Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations Certification or the ability to obtain reciprocity by the hire date/academy start date.
• NC. Driver Operator Emergency Vehicle Driver
• NC EMT Certification or the ability to obtain Legal Recognition or Reciprocity from NC Office of Emergency Medical Services.
• NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800
• Three additional certifications from the following list:
• • AEMT or Paramedic that is accepted by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services
  • NC Driver Operator Vehicle Pumps
  • NC Driver Operator Aerials
  • Hazardous Materials Level II (Technician)
  • Technical Rescuer: Compilation of TR- General Series
  • Swiftwater Rescue
  • NC Fire Instructor I
  • NC Fire Officer I
  • Fire Management Certificate (obtained at the University/College level)
  • College Degree
  • Fire Inspector Level I

This position is critical to emergency operations and will report to work in spite of or because of an emergency or disaster event.
