An employee in this class regularly schedules inspections of occupancies requiring Level I or higher Fire Code Inspector certifications from the NC Code Officials Qualifications Board (NCCOQB) to locate fire hazards and code violations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Fire Inspector. This employee must exercise initiative and independent judgment within the boundaries of accepted fire prevention methods. Work is reviewed in conferences and through reports.
Minimum Experience and Training
Graduation from an accredited high school, plus completion of training in modern fire prevention methods. A minimum of one year of experience enforcing the North Carolina Fire Code is required.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid Class C license issued by the State of North Carolina and a safe driving record.
Minimum standard: Level I Fire Inspector Standard Certificate with Level II Standard Certificate Preferred.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 20 to 50 pounds. Incumbent sometimes works near electrical current and must be able to climb, crawl, crouch, see close and see color. May work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Starting Salary: $52,296.00 Annual Entry Level
