Position Overview

The Town of Winterville is currently seeking a dedicated and qualified professional to join our team as a full-time Firefighter. In this role, you will play a vital part in protecting our community through proactive emergency response, rigorous training, and equipment maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

• Emergency Operations: Participate actively in firefighting, technical rescue, and emergency medical services (EMS) operations.
• Communication & Equipment: Operate complex Fire-Rescue-Ems communication systems and perform routine maintenance on all emergency equipment and vehicles.
• Protocol Compliance: Follow all applicable departmental guidelines, standard operating procedures, and medical protocols.
• Continuous Training: Complete extensive classroom instruction and field training exercises to maintain operational readiness.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

Emergency response environments are inherently dangerous. Employees in this class are exposed to severe physical and environmental hazards, including:

• Working indoors and outdoors in extreme hot and cold weather conditions.
• Exposure to loud noises, vibrations, fire, smoke, odors, mists, oils, chemicals, and bodily fluids.
• Essential Requirement: The ability to function regularly while wearing specialized personal protective equipment (PPE), including Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
• Experience: Prior firefighting experience preferred.
• Certifications & Licensing: Must meet and maintain minimum qualifications established by the Department and possess a valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License.

Compensation 

• Salary Range: $49,584 - $74,378 (Dependent on Qualifications)
