TITLE: Coordinator – CE Fire and Rescue Services
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: This part time position is responsible for coordination of all continuing education instructional offerings (FIP) for Fire and Rescue Services. The duties include assurance of compliance with standards as set forth by the NC Office of the State Fire Marshall (OSFM). In addition, this position is responsible for advising students, facilitating class sites, maintaining necessary records, and evaluating instructional activities. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Health Sciences and Public Services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Fire Protection Technology or Fire Sciences from a regionally accredited college/university
Currently affiliated full time with a Fire Department or in lieu of current employment, will consider experience and avocational pursuits in the fire service
Minimum of seven years of experience as a fire fighter
Pro Board or IFSAC certified as Firefighter II and Fire Instructor II
NC EMT-B
NC Qualified Firefighter Instructor
NC Qualified Live Burn Instructor
Valid NC Driver’s License
Standard fire service physical requirements
Pass the SCC hiring requirements of a criminal background check and drug testing
Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Technology
NC Qualified LP Gas Live Burn Instructor
NC Qualified Technical Rescue Instructor
Management experience in the fire/rescue field
HazMat Training Experience
DUTIES:
Fulfills School Director role as designated by the OSFM and strictly adheres to the responsibilities of the School Director as outlined by the OSFM (Section FD-DA 400.01 Policy and Procedures Manual)

Establish course offerings and scheduling of courses through analysis of local fire departments’ needs, participating in the delivery or as a back- up instructor when needed or appropriate
Participate in student advising, registration and pre-registration activities, as needed
Grow fire and rescue course offerings, being mindful of FTE goals and community needs
Recruit, hire, and supervise instructors, insuring that instructors are properly qualified by the NCFRC for the particular course they are to teach
Submit and monitor contracts and timesheets
Arrange for locations for courses to be offered
Order supplies, equipment and materials needed
Maintain files, course planning paperwork
Process student complaints and instructor issues
Maintain relationships with community fire personnel and lead Fire Advisory Board
Follow the procedures for testing of individuals participating in NCFRC certification courses as outlined in PFT 300.01 (Certification Testing)
Provide instructors with NCFRC approved course outlines and other needed instructional materials
Reproduce and distribute NCFRC approved testing instruments as prescribed for certification testing
Ensure candidates have access to tests and test sites
Make timely notifications and submissions to NCFRC as required
Evaluate instructors and make class visits as required
Collect and store records as required
Provide all necessary documentation to college registration and accountability personnel
Ensure that all NFPA 1403, OSFM and College requirements for Live Burn classes are strictly followed
Be present and serve as a site supervisor at all Live Burn classes, ensuring that all OSFM guidelines are followed while the class is conducted
Maintain requested office hours as needed
