Essential Duties
New Hanover County is seeking a Fire Safety Data Specialist to serve the Fire Services department. This position is responsible developing and maintaining a client-based records management system, specific to Fire Services, in order to collect, analyze, and distribute data necessary to the operations and business plan of the department. Duties include responding to requests for information and data analysis by querying the records management system and creating reports; assisting in building and maintaining the records management system; developing reports on computer aided dispatch (CAD) response times, apparatus and equipment maintenance, risk management (pre-incident survey) data, community risk assessment data and incident report data in order to allow the department to measure performance with regard to established standards; analyzing and performing maintenance of GIS data layers by reformatting data from the records management system, CAD, and other systems into usable format for analysis; conducting maintenance of the records management system application to identify incident trends and deployment strategies; running audit queries, identifying errors, and correcting errors in preparation for the submission of required information to the Office of the State Fire Marshal; monitoring social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for reach, insights, and effectiveness of public education, community outreach, and program strategies; designing and distributing reports to staff that assist in identifying trends and patterns in fire services-related matters; collecting, analyzing, and preparing statistical reports; performing advanced video and sound editing duties; and recommending and coordinating the purchase and installation of hardware and software resources.
New Hanover County Fire Rescue is comprised of 127 employees who work to protect and educate citizens from the threats of fire and other emergencies. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field and 1 year experience with fire services data systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working in geographic information systems such as ArcGIS and experience with SQL server and Firehouse software is preferred.
