Fire Inspector
SALARY: $25.00 - $28.00 Hourly

DESCRIPTION:
The Town of Garner is seeking a Fire Inspector to perform intermediate technical work in the inspection
of building plans and construction work for compliance with the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code for
up to 20 hours per week. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Chief Fire Inspector. This
position will initially be conducting annual maintenance inspections of existing businesses.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Conducts field inspections of residential, multi-family, and commercial properties for compliance
with the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code.
Compiles lists of violations; follows up on modifications;
Prepares notices of violations; explains policies and code provisions;
Receives complaints in regard to possible code issues and handles enforcement problems;
Where construction is not being made in compliance with regulations as to methods and/or
materials, issues warnings and stop-work order if necessary;
Enforces fire lane violations;
Answers questions from private citizens, contractors and builders; testifies in court on code
violation cases; makes reports and keeps records regarding inspections; maintains database of
fire inspections;
Performs other tasks as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) supplemented by course study in the North
Carolina Fire Prevention Code.
Applicants must possess an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
Applicants must have a current Level II fire inspector probationary certificate (or be able to obtain).
Preference will be given to applicants with a Level II fire inspector standard certificate or higher.
Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience using FireHouse software.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is a Supplemental position scheduled for up to 20 hours per week. We will offer a highly flexible
work schedule, Monday-Saturday.
