The City of Monroe is now accepting applications for the position of full-time Firefighter to perform specialized fire fighting, rescue, emergency medical and hazardous materials response work. Prefer certification, knowledge and/or work experience in fire fighting, rescue, emergency medical and hazardous materials. Requires the ability to learn fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical and hazardous materials response techniques.
High school diploma or GED required. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be of good moral character and must be 18 years of age. Must meet and obtain all departmental training and certification requirements for the position.
Work schedule consists of a 24-hour rotating shift including holidays, weekends, and nights. A 30-mile living residency from the main station is required if hired.
Starting salary is $35,876 annually. The ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
Applicants must complete an entry level Firefighter written examination. Examinations are scheduled at the Union County Public School Professional Development Center located at 721 Brewer Drive in Monroe for Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 6:00 pm and on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 9:00 am. Please schedule one day for testing when completing your online application. Please make note of your exam date as no reminders will be sent out. There is no cost to take the test.
