    DESCRIPTION

    As an advisor to executive staff, the Sr. Data Analyst will analyze complex data sets and the queries that form them, applying statistically sound methods to detect significant trends related to the Wilmington Fire Department. This position will create and publish various periodic and special purpose business related reports, writing and troubleshooting SQL code and providing assistance to system administrators.  This position is also responsible for the data hygiene processes and the related documentation.

    To perform this job successfully, the Sr. Data Analyst will be the subject matter expert on the Fire Departments data analysis, have knowledge of relational databases, database design, and data mining techniques and strong knowledge of and experience with SQL databases and query writing.

    Required Qualifications

    Education:  Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Geography, Business Administration or related field.
     
    Experience:  Minimum three years of professional experience in relational database administration, statistical analysis and Geographic Information Systems.
     
    Other Requirements:  Valid Driver's License
     
    Note:  Driving and criminal history check required.  The selected candidate will also have to complete a post-offer drug screen.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products and ESRI ArcGIS.
     
    Familiarization with SQL Server.

    BENEFITS

    Benefits are offered to employees working at least 30 hours per week. 

    Health Insurance - The City offers two options for health coverage: a standard PPO plan and a High Deductible Health Plan with an associated Health Savings Account. Coverage becomes effective the first day of the month following 60 days of employment for employees and their eligible dependents. Both you and the City contribute to the overall cost of coverage.  

    Dental Insurance - Coverage becomes effective the first day of the month following 60 days of employment. Employees, their spouse and dependent children are eligible for coverage.

    Life Insurance - The city pays to provide coverage valued at one times your annual salary. Supplemental insurance is available for employees to purchase. Optional coverage for dependents is also available for purchase.

    Retirement:
     - NC Local Government Retirement System - All benefits eligible employees make a mandatory 6% contribution every pay period.

     - Deferred Compensation – The city contributes an amount equal to 4.5% of the annual salary to either the 401(k) or 457 plans regardless of employee contribution. Employees may choose to contribute additional money to the deferred compensation plans, without a match from the City, within the IRS guidelines.

     

    Paid Leave: 
     - Sick Leave - 12 days accrued each year
     - Annual Leave - Accrual based on years of service and classification. Employees can earn from 10 to 24 days each year.
    - Holidays - 11 paid holidays annually
