Chief of Fire & Emergency Medical Services
Stafford County, Virginia, with a diverse population of 145,000, is strategically located on the Interstate 95 Corridor just 25 miles south of the Washington, DC Beltway and 50 miles north of Richmond, invites résumés and applications for the position of Chief of Fire and Emergency Medical Services. Under the direction of the County Administrator, the Fire Chief directs all activities and operations of the Stafford County Fire and Rescue Combination System, consisting of 356 professionals and serves as both the Emergency Management Coordinator and Chief Fire Marshal for the County. Stafford County Fire & Rescue Department (SCFRD) provides an all-hazards response in the following areas: Fire suppression, technical rescue, HAZMAT, paramedic/EMS response, ambulance transport, water rescue, emergency management, arson and explosive device investigation, environmental crimes, and public fire and injury prevention.
A minimum of ten years of fire service management experience at a command staff level complex with a fire department is required. Qualified candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in fire science, public administration, or a related field of study. The appointed individual must be highly accomplished in fire service with knowledge of fire department operations management, public administration of local governments, the best practices in the management of fire and emergency medical services, and the principles and practice of emergency preparedness and disaster response. Applicants need to have ICS/NIMS training, National Certification as a Fire Officer II and EMT-B certification or the ability to qualify for certification in one year. Advanced training in the National Academy EFO program is preferred.

The salary for the position begins at $124,000 and is negotiable based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
