The Town of Hope Mills is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a full time Assistant Fire Marshal position (Class Code: 600-04).
Initial Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform fire inspections, fire prevention and fire & life safety education.
- Performs duties under the direction of the Town’s Fire Marshal.
- Inspects commercial, industrial, institutional, educational and other buildings/structures including open burning sites to ensure compliance with NC State Fire Code, Town Ordinances, regulations and laws.
- Assists the Town Fire Marshal with review and evaluation of structural plans and blue prints.
- Issues warnings, notices and citations for fire code violations.
- Prepares documents and reports including but not limited to inspections and violations.
- Maintains and updates a variety of files and records pertaining to inspections education and code enforcement.
- Receives and responds to citizen complaints and inquiries regarding fire code issues, answer questions and provide information to other agencies, town departments, businesses and the general public regarding fire inspections, prevention, education and safety.
- Attends and participates in continuing education classes.
- Responds to assist other fire department personnel at emergency incidents.
- Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences or propose actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
- Fosters and maintains effective working relationships with other agencies, departments, schools, community groups and the general public.
- Attends meetings, conferences and makes presentations when necessary or required.
- Functions at the rank of Captain.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High School graduate or equivalent
- Must be at least 18-years of age
- Possess current NC certification as a Standard Fire Inspector Level II (with ability to obtain Level III within designated time-frame)
- Possess current NC certification as a Fire & Life Safety Educator Level I (with ability to obtain Level III within designated time-frame)
- Posses current NC certification as a Fire Officer II (or ability to obtain within designated time-frame)
- Possess current NC certification as a Firefighter II
- Possess current NC certification as an Emergency Medical Technician
- Possess current NC certification as a Hazardous Materials Operations Level Responder
- Possess FEMA certifications in NIMS 100,200,700 & 800
- Possess an appropriate NC Driver’s License
- Obtain other certifications determined to be beneficial to the town and the fire department.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of the application of fire inspections and practices.
- Thorough knowledge of the use and operation of a wide variety of motorized fire, rescue and auxiliary apparatus and equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of laws, rules standards and regulations relating to fire inspection, prevention and safety education.
- Ability to apply inspection and prevention knowledge and techniques to a variety of situations encountered.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Special Pre-Employment Requirements
- Successfully pass Criminal Background and Driver’s License check
- Successfully pass pre-employment Drug Screening
Salary
Full Time: $45,781.00 Annually + Excellent Benefits Package. Candidate will receive a pay increase upon successful completion of probationary period.
