Position: Firefighter/EMT-B
Starting Salary Range: DOQ. (Fully certified FF/EMT-Bs will start at $35,600 annually with vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, retirement & medical benefits)

The Stoney Point Fire Department Inc. is advertising to fill positions for Firefighter/EMT-B effective immediately. Applications are being accepted to fill the advertised positions. Applicants must be at least 19 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and (1) preferably be NIMS qualified, certified by the NC Department of Insurance (DOI) as a Firefighter II, Hazmat Level I and certified as a NC EMT-B. Applications may be picked up and turned in at the Stoney Point Fire Department Inc., 7221 Stoney Point Road, Fayetteville, North Carolina 28306, during normal business hours Monday through Sunday 8 to 5 pm. FIREFIGHTER/EMT DEFINITION
This is an entry-level, professional staff, full-time position with the Stoney Point Fire Department’s Fire, Rescue & Emergency Medical Services. An individual in this position will be responsible for fire suppression, prevention & education, emergency medical, rescue and associated services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Thorough knowledge of modern firefighting techniques and tactics
- General knowledge of mechanics and preventive maintenance
- General knowledge of emergency medical techniques
- General knowledge of streets, water system, hydrants, and buildings within the fire district
- Able to understand and carry out oral and written orders
- Able to establish excellent relationship with customers
- Thorough knowledge of office and computer skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to physically perform the basic life functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing. Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess visual acuity to size up the color, volume, and extent of fire involvement at fire scenes, to operate heavy fire apparatus in emergency situations, and to prepare records and reports. Must pass the SPFD annual physical agility test.

- NC Class B Driver’s License or obtain within six (6) months of employment
The following is a sample of the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position, and not a complete list of duties or responsibilities.
GENERAL JOB DUTIES INCLUDE: Work schedule will be a 24 hour shift rotating followed by 24 hours off for three (3) shifts and then followed by 96 hours (4) days off. Responds to fire alarms, emergency medical service calls and other emergency calls; performs fire suppression functions including rescue, deploying and operating hose, ventilating roofs, performing salvage work after fires, and other related tasks associated with fire suppression. Administers first aid and emergency medical services to injured persons; works in an out-of-door environment subject to extreme temperature, inclement weather and intermittent exposure to dust, fumes and loud noise intensity. Maintains physical activity over prolonged periods of time including standing, attacking a fire, walking, kneeling and stooping in awkward positions, and moving/lifting heavy objects up to 100 pounds while wearing 44 pounds of bunker gear and equipment. Performs emergency medical technician duties as required. Inspects, cleans and maintains apparatus, equipment, quarters and grounds. Conducts pre-fire plans of businesses, churches and hydrants to ensure compliance with department and NFPA standards pertaining to fire prevention and suppression codes; drills and studies technical materials on equipment operation, fire suppression and fire prevention to improve or maintain an effective level of performance. Provides tours of the station and apparatuses, provides fire prevention and safety presentations to the public. Completes training by attending and assist with company level training; participating in required departmental training; participating in additional training and education opportunities; maintain adequate continuing education to maintain certifications; assist with employee and volunteer development; and assist the training division as needed. Performs related duties such as physical training, completes appropriate documentation for emergency and administrative requirements and all other duties as assigned. Subject to 24 hour recall.
REQUIREMENTS: US Citizens or alien who can proof identity and work eligibility to work in the United States. 18 Years of age and older. High School Diploma or G.E.D. Ability to read and write the English language and is skilled in communicating and understanding written and oral instructions. Possess a Valid North Carolina Class "C" driver’s license with a clear driving record for the past three (3) years and able to obtain and maintain a North Carolina Class “B” license within six (6) months of employment. Applicants is subjected to extensive background investigation and must successfully complete the Stoney Point Fire Department pre-employment written exam, physical agility test, oral interviews, drug screen, medical physical, psychological evaluation, and training orientation program. Ability to reason abstractly using mechanical concepts. Must have the ability to take effective action in emergency situations, exhibiting emotional stability and courage to perform hazardous fire fighting duties under stress. Get along well with the public. Maintain physical endurance and ability in accordance with the minimum SPFD physical fitness requirements and be able to successfully complete the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) evolution course in order to obtain a bottle time utilizing a full 30 minute SCBA bottle with full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Must maintain good working relationship with volunteers, co-workers and with other departments and agencies in the area.
