Black Mountain / Battalion Chief Position

    SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

    The Battalion Chief and the personnel in which he/she manages will focus on a continued and constant readiness to serve the citizens of Black Mountain concerning the multiple facets of emergency services.  Because any and all aspects of emergency services involves the saving of human lives and, to a lessor nature, property, it is fundamental to the position of Battalion Chief that all duties and responsibilities are deemed essential.  The Battalion Chief will have the ability to work independently while being decisive when responding to emergency situations.  An emphasis of the work is on management of personnel, serving as incident commander, resolving employee relation issues, as well as the responsibility to train firefighters and EMS professionals.


    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    ·         Preferred Associates Degree in a related field of Fire Science or Public Safety discipline;

    ·         Ten years of emergency services experience with a minimum of five years of supervisory experience (can be in a non-related fire capacity);

    ·         Possession of an EMT-B credential, preferred Advanced EMT;

    ·         Certified NC Firefighter Certification;

    ·         Certified NC Fire Officer Level 2;

    ·         North Carolina Chief 101 Certification (must have completed course along with maintaining the certification or the ability to attain within six months);

    ·         Certified NC Emergency Vehicle Driver;

    ·         Preferred Certified Driver Operator Pumps and Aerials;

    ·         Class B Driver’s License;

    ·         NC certification at Hazmat Operations Level;

    ·         NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 AND 800;

    ·         Preferred Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician;

    ·         Preferred Fire Inspector Level 1;

    ·         Preferred Chief Fire Officer Designation and Executive Fire Officer.
