TITLE: DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF (FULL-TIME AND EXEMPT STATUS)

SALARY RANGE: $55,263 - $82,905 (Grade 18)
STARTING PAY: $55,263 - $69,107

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Employee performs responsible professional, administrative and management work assisting the Fire Chief with planning, directing and coordinating the operational activities of the Town’s Fire Department, which includes three fire stations that services two fire districts including the East Buncombe Fire District (47 square miles) and 7 square miles of coverage for more than 8000 residents in Black Mountain. Employee assumes management of the department in the absence of the Fire Chief exercising supervision over all departmental personnel.
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or related field supplemented by 5+ years of command experience, with preference being given to applicants that possess 7-10 years of command experience
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of IFASC/Pro Board Firefighter II
- NCOEMS Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic required-Advanced preferred-County Board certified within 6 months)
- IFSAC/Pro Board Hazmat Operations Level
- Emergency Vehicle Driver Certification (Preferred)
- NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800
- IFSAC/Pro Board Driver Operator Pumps (Preferred)
- IFSAC/Pro Board Driver Operator Aerials (Preferred)
- IFSAC/Pro Board Fire Instructor Level II
- IFSAC/Pro Board Fire Officer III
- Fire Inspector Level I (Or ability to obtain within 1 year)
- Blood borne Pathogens training per department policy
- Wildland Firefighter S-130 and L-180 are preferred
- North Carolina Class B Driver’s License within 6 months
